Yamaha Releases New Tn Series Amps
12/03/2007
Yamaha Commercial Audio announces the Tn Series Network Power Amplifiers. The three new models consolidate Yamaha’ position as a high-end amplifier manufacturer, providing an extremely reliable, high-power amp range above Yamaha’s PC9501N network power amplifier. The Tn Series marks Yamaha’s 30th anniversary in the power amplifier market and is the ideal amplifier solution for high-end sound reinforcement, touring and installation functions.
The new entries, T3n, T4n and T5n, are designed to deliver high output power ranging from 1900W to 2500W (Stereo at 2 Ohms) and extremely efficient operation under low impedance conditions. Built into a rugged, solid 2RU chassis, the Tn Series amplifiers are lightweight (14 kg) and feature an easily removable fan filter to withstand the harsh conditions of live sound reinforcement and touring applications.
The Tn Series amplifiers utilise a newly developed FET Drive Circuit for high efficiency current buffer circuitry, allowing the Tn Series to achieve highly stable 2 Ohm operational capability at up to 2500W output power (T5n). The Tn Series’ 2 Ohm driving capability easily powers multiple speakers and gives audio engineers complete confidence across a much wider variety of sound reinforcement scenarios.
The ability to stably drive load impedances as low as 2 Ohms makes the Tn series amplifiers ideal for powering line array systems on the road. In addition, Tn series amplifiers are capable of driving a wide range of large-scale speaker installations in systems that take up less space than ever before.
In particular, Tn Series amplifiers are ideal for rental and touring companies utilising NEXO Geo line array and PS series speakers as well as Yamaha’s acclaimed Installation Series speakers.
The Tn Series is equipped with a newly developed, high-class protection circuit that provides power supply protection against low or high voltage. A high-volume fan cooling system and comprehensive protection circuitry help to maintain high reliability, and power consumption has been reduced by 50% compared to conventional amplifiers thanks to a new generation of Yamaha's high-efficiency EEEngine amplifier technology.
Like Yamaha’s PC-1N series amplifiers, the Tn Series includes on-board networking capability for remote control and monitoring via the Yamaha ACU-16C Amp Control Unit. By integrating the Tn Series and ACU-16C with the Yamaha NHB32-C Network Hub Bridge and NetworkAmp Manager software (for Windows), audio engineers can create a truly networked, fully controllable amplification system.
A single ACU16-C control unit is capable of monitoring a variety of critical functions for up to 32 separate Tn Series amplifiers using a PC via RS-232C or USB. The ACU16-C communicates via Cat-5 cable and uses Cobranet™ as its input. By adding the NHB32-C Network Hub/Bridge, users can monitor and control the entire system using Cobranet connections and can also use the ACU16-C as a high-quality 24-bit DA converter.
The “Input Gain” level on the Tn Series is switchable between 26dB and 32dB and each channel is adjustable via a 31-position input attenuator. The 2RU designs include front-panel, ten-point LED meters, plus power/stand-by, protection, temperature, remote and level indicators for comprehensive monitoring.
Models T3n, T4n and T5n deliver respective power outputs of 800, 1150, and 1350 watts per channel into 8-Ohm loads (1kHz) and bridged mono channel outputs of 2800, 4100, and 4600 watts, respectively.
The Tn Series also offers another innovative function: automatic fan cessation. The cooling fan stops automatically when the input signal ceases, eliminating heat and power consumption which would otherwise be generated by the fan. In addition to saving power, this function considerably extends the cooling fan’s life span.
“The Tn Series are truly world-class amplifiers that offer the highest quality and most reliable, lightweight and cost-effective solution in Yamaha’s 30-year history of power amplifier production,” says Mark Amory, General Manager of Yamaha Commercial Audio. “In addition to their comprehensive networking capability, the Tn Series will endure a wide variety of touring and installation demands and meet audio engineers’ needs for pristine sound definition.”
